A must read!

Stop dressing your 6 year old like a Skank by Celia Rivenbark, a mom who hit her breaking point with the shrinking fashions.

I know, I know - a book recommendation from Rick! You've got to be kidding... But seriously. I have read the reviews and searched google to read some of the inside text and seriously - this woman is indeed brave. I feel very much like her in regards to wondering what the heck (she uses much more southern language) is going on in the minds of some parents who buy clothing for their kids - their little kids that say things on them like, "Spank me", "delicious" or "made you look..." - Get serious!

I know it is hard to battle with our daughters on decent, affordable clothing that they will wear - I am just thankful that my daughter is overly modest. She is 12 and still insists on wearing shorts under floor length dresses (a fashion trend that this father insisted upon since pre-school - I mean what type of girl sits "criss-cross applesauce" in a dress... As a culture, we have allowed the objectification of our children, especially our daughters, to go unchecked. Parents are too often afraid of taking a stand. We all, fathers & mothers, need to “man up” and stop this.

Check out this ABC news story on the book. Then decide for yourself.

Did you get yours?

With his stolen base Thursday night, Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury earned everyone in the country a free taco from Taco Bell on Tuesday, Oct. 30, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. (thanks to Taco Bell's "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" promotion).

Ellsbury's taco jackpot (Thanks, Jacoby!) inspired Boston.com user Jeff Dockum to come up with this nickname for the young speedster and create this image.

According to Forbes, Taco Bell is now on the hook for potentially $233.5 million as the current US population is 303.2 million. Forbes states Taco Bell's US sales last year were $6.3 billion. So I think they could stand to give away a few tacos - after all the markup on a 20oz soda is 300%.

A long, long time ago...

Yeah, it has been a long time since my last post. I have been very busy - too busy lately - I am going to have to make some changes.

Well, here is what I have been working on for the past few weeks. Well, it is kind of a long story - every year I make (yes, I said make) the halloween costumes for my family - it's just something I do... usually they are really easy, 3 musketeers, cowboys, elvin creatures, snow princesses, fairies, anime characters, pirates, etc.. but this year, my daughter and her friend Chandler decided they wanted to be Bellhops from the Disneyland California Adventure, Hollywood Tower of Terror.

My daughter - being so proud of her dad's abilities spoke up and said, to her friends, sure, my dad can make them. Yeah, right... remember, I said usually they are easy - not this time.

Well I embarked on some recon and took these photos of the bellhops attire.

And after a little creativity - some hot glue (my favorite sewing item) and some straight stitching on the sewing machine... here is what I ended up with - not to shabby eh? I created my own pattern for the top and modified a pattern for an English Gentlemans walking coat (don't ask.. that is what the pattern is for...).

And this year I didn't use any duct tape! I am kinda bummed about that.

See you all at Bug-a-boo!
